Parker: 100/100

Falstaff: 100/100

Medium cramy garnet colour, ochre reflections, broad rim brightening. Fine nuances of preserved dark cherries on the nose, hints of cassis and mint typical of the terroir, fine ethereal notes, delicate candied orange zest and nougat, expressive bouquet. Elegant ripe sweetness on the palate, perfectly integrated tannins, pleasant acidity, mineral and persistent, a mature big red wine, a triumphant Mouton that can still hold its own in a single bottle.

Gabriel: 20/20

1959 Château Mouton-Rothschild: Still a very dark, maturing red colour. The bouquet is clearly malty and shows chocolate tones (Ovaltine), then lots of ripe plums, dark sultanas, Darjeeling tea, graphite, dried rosemary and oregano. In the first quarter of an hour, the nose continued to grow, becoming even fuller and at times even smelling of Chambertin. It really goes into depth and reveals truffle and leather tones. You can't get enough of it. The nose is ripe and shows no faults, but exactly what you can expect from a Mouton 1959, provided you have had it in your glass before. The palate is perfect. It shows the complex sweetness of 1959 and the tannins are rounded and supportive within the opulent extract. The finish is beguiling and powerful. A perfect bottle of a feminine Pauillac legend. For a true wine connoisseur, this is pure pleasure. Drink 20/20
