Valuation 17/2

Bright garnet-ruby colour. Fine spicy bouquet, delicate, showing less pressure than the 96, delicate with a beautiful Cabernet note. Elegance and balance on the palate, the tannins are very fine and the wine has length and juice, perfumed truffle notes, black tea and precious woods in the sublime finish. A dancing Barton, perhaps now in its best maturity. (18/20). 14: Medium wine red colour. Petrol bouquet, very mineral, reductive, difficult to approach, but shows an appealing, great depth. On the palate with flesh and rounded pine, dark plum skin, brazil tobacco, aromatic. Not above suspicion, but with good potential. Decant for a long time. I tasted two different bottles and the wine struck me earlier for its "gentle underground stink".

Falstaff: 88/100

Deep carmine-garnet colour, violet reflections, broad watery rim. Red forest berry confit, delicate caramel touch, preserved cherries. Wide-meshed on the palate, lively acid structure, cherries on the finish, lacks a little length, lemony aftertaste.

Cannavan: 89/100

When to drink: 2006 to 2024

Lovely depth on the nose here; tremendously creamy and dense. Powerful palate of cedary black fruit, chocolate and deep, bittersweet blackcurrants. Thick texture is enlivened by good tannins and balanced acidity.
