Valuation 16/20
93: Barrel sample (16/20): Spicy nose, floral, primary fruit, violets. Fine extract, peppery acidity (but could also be from the barrique), velvety on the palate, stone fruit notes, fleshy. Generally focusses on elegance, slightly above the 87. This was followed by several impressions, mostly enjoyed at home from half a bottle: certainly not a great premier, but still with a fine aroma. I had paid just 25 francs for the Schöppli. 98: Fairly light colour. Toasty bouquet; almost a little one-dimensional and already shows mature Merlot notes. Slender, elegant, gastronomic on the palate, but rather too light for a Premier Grand Cru (15/20): 01: It was probably very good in its fruit phase, but it was certainly never brilliant. The only justification for not declassifying the entire harvest is that there was already no 91. For a Premier Grand Cru, this wine today, after 10 years, is a real insult to the whole of St. Emilion. Acidity and fruit are still present, but the composition is really no fun at all (14/20). 04: Lightening, transparent, not to say thin wine red and thus one of the brightest 92 colours. Open bouquet reminiscent of a light, spicy côte-de-nuit; delicate and fine, even if not particularly powerful. On the palate, rather lean texture and less aromatic than on the nose, fine dryness, leathery texture, gently malty finish. Still a restrained pleasure as a lean wine. (14/20). 11: Very light colour with rosé tones and a clear orange hue. Very open bouquet, reminiscent of an overripe Burgundy, malty, caramel, mixed with wilted soil notes and red chilli pepper. On the palate, the comparability changes from Burgundy to Rioja and is now reminiscent of a dangerously ripe Crianza.
