Medium garnet colour with a subtle brick-red shimmer on the rim. Finely spicy bouquet, characterised by Cabernet and possibly also by black peppery Petit Verdot, so there is something finely grassy inside, peppery pod and a hint of eucalyptus. The palate is somewhat more accessible than before and certainly better orientated than the still bulky 86, rather slender with a supporting tannin-acid connection, sandy extract, rather boorish, but it's probably the character that counts here. Not dissimilar to the 1981 (convincing today). Still young. Patience brings roses.
