Still pretty dark purple color. Explosive notes of elderberries, black cherries, tobacco, leather, smoke, sweet spices, eucalyptus, vanilla, coffee, also some minerality. It’s full-bodied, dense and powerful, with high acidity providing the freshness it needs and still medium+ tannin that is super sweet and ripe. Excellent length. Still a baby in terms of evolution but one of the wines that made me fall in love with Barossa about 20 years ago. Since then my personal taste has developped away from these wines but once in a while I thoroughly enjoy a glass of them… and Rockford (especially the Single-Vineyard-Selections) are usually my got-to wines for my Barossa-Shiraz fix. They combine Barossa richness with incredible depth and freshness and the ability to age gracefully for 20 years and more.

Im Weinbauparadies Barossa Valley gehört das Weingut Rockford des irisch-stämmigen Robert O’Callaghan zu den in jeglicher Hinsicht aussergewöhnlichen Adressen. Er ist ein enthusiastischer, qualitätsfanatischer Traditionalist und mit Leib und Seele Weinbauer.
Das mediterrane Klima des Barossa Valley, das qualitative Zentrum des südaustralischen Weinbaus, trägt das Seine dazu bei. Bei Rockford wird Wein beinahe noch wie vor hundert Jahren hergestellt, alles wird von Hand gemacht.
Die Rockford-Weine sind bestes Beispiel für den südaustralischen Stil. Vor allem der Shiraz, der von barocker Fülle und Wucht ist, aber dennoch sehr elegant ist.
