Name: Piper longum
Its appearance is not round, but elongated - almost like a small pine cone. Despite its unusual appearance, the Asian long pepper belongs to the true pepper family. It is also known as Bengal pepper or stick pepper. This was the first pepper to arrive in Europe with the Romans.
Flavour: slightly sweetish, earthy warm, spicy
Application: Cream sauces, cheese fondue, casseroles, soups
Tip: Only grind with a mortar or use a grater! Do not put in a spice grinder, the pepper is too hard for that!
