Valuation | 18/20 |
60 % Cabernet Franc, 40 % Merlot. Dense dark purple colour. Intense bouquet, lots of dark plums, certain chocolate notes, Darjeeling tea, malt and precious woods, complex and full-bodied with lots of spice in the background. On the palate with rich, very dense extract, good astringency, black berries, classic structure, not as fine as in other years, but with characterful support, liquorice, Szechuan pepper and lots of liquorice in the long, aromatic finish. In terms of type, a 1985 with more finesse. |
When to drink: 2017 to 2030
Falstaff: 91/100
Deep dark ruby-garnet colour, youthful reflections, violet rim. Initially quite restrained on the nose, fine bouquet of sour cherries and cherries, delicate hints of nougat, exotic spices. Powerful on the palate, sweet extract, intense spice flavours also in the texture, quite present tannins that are still somewhat demanding, good length, fine caramel sweetness, good potential.
