Valuation 18/20
99: Barrel sample (17/20): Only 75 % of a normal harvest, 55 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 30 % Merlot, 15 % Cabernet Franc: Spicy, pleasantly sweet Cabernet bouquet, appears rather slender, yet aromatic, cassis scent in it. Lots of juice on the palate, supple, almost rolling tannins, complex body that takes on almost Burgundian characteristics, a soft, charming Lalande that can be enjoyed quite early. Tasted six times in one week during a trip to Germany in 2003: Dark garnet colour, brightening water edge. Sweet bouquet, freshly baked confectionery, roasted and dried banana notes, soft with medium pressure. Juicy, elegant, fine and again light on the palate. Resembles its own 85 in a somewhat finer, but unfortunately also less impressive form. I actually wanted to give it 18/20 points at its best moment, but there was still the 1997 Las-Cases in the glass next to it, which showed me exactly what real 18/20 points are. (17/20). 08: I actually drink white wine with an aperitif. Peter Reimer puts a magnum of this wine on the table in his office at five in the evening. And it tasted good. And it tasted good. And tasted. Really "boozy", even if the word speaks for itself. Almost showing a Ribera Temranillo sweetness. Simply awesome.
