Valuation 18/20
Still powerful and flexing its muscles. (17/20). 20: Medium purple colour, few ripe tones. Intense, wild Cabernet bouquet. Turns a bit in the direction of Napa. Medicinal, petrol and herbaceous. Still very young on the nose. Darker berry flavours in the second attack and more depth. Powerful on the palate, the tannins - after almost 20 years - still seem quite arrogant. Not a Saint-Julien flatterer, but a demanding food wine. The rustic power will remain, which will prevent future finesse in the long term. Decanting is definitely a good idea! (18/20). 21: Medium wine red colour with a brightening rim. This one shows a minimal shimmer of ripeness. Open bouquet, conveys rather a red berry fruit, dried goji berries, plums, cedar, sawdust and light pepper notes, is finely layered and quite elegant in the approach. It is medium-bodied on the palate. The slightly sinewy texture comes to the fore. There are still some tannin reserves. The finish is filled with classic Bordeaux flavours and the final aromas are reminiscent of pencil lead. This exceptionally elegant Poyferré can be categorised as mature. It should be, after 20 years of evolution. (18/20).

Falstaff: 91/100

Deep ruby colour, violet reflections, subtle edge brightening. Smoky, herbal and spicy blackberry confit, delicate cassis, subtle roasted flavours, candied orange zest. Medium complexity, fine heart cherry fruit, ripe, well-integrated tannins, shows good length, already drinkable, a charming food companion.
