Description

Gabriel:

Drinking maturity drink (2015 - 2045)
Valuation 19/20
55 % Merlot, 45 % Cabernet Franc. 28hl./hl. Immense quantities of unusable grapes were not harvested or were discarded. 62 % of the production yielded Grand Vin. Dark, deep garnet colour, purple reflections. Great Cheval bouquet, i.e. leather notes, musk, Irish moss, smoky tones, liquorice and dark berries, cassis, blackberry bushes. On the palate, the wine is dense but fine, showing a racy fruit acidity, again with lots of black, almost mysterious flavours. It already tastes so wonderfully of Cheval Blanc, as is usually only found in bottles that have matured for 10 years. So, on the one hand, this is perhaps an early, extremely great wine, but it can also age for a very long time. Those who mourn the old, particularly profound Cheval's will find solace here. Perhaps this will even be a successor to the 1961? Great Cheval vintages are always based on a low yield per hectare. And this is also the case here. The most convincing and probably also the greatest wine in the Libournais!

When to drink: 2014 to 2032

Falstaff: 96/100

Dark ruby-garnet colour, violet reflections, subtle edge brightening. Under a hint of roasted aromas and caramel, lots of black fruit, violets, blueberry confit, heart cherries, some menthol, precious wood and velour, a great blend of Merlot and Cab Franc aromas. Powerful, taut, sweet black berries again, integrated tannins, fresh acidity structure, mineral finish with present wood spice, definitely too young in this bottle format, a ticking time bomb in a positive sense.
