Description
The winery was built in 1894 for the sole purpose of providing the summer residence Liwadija
of the then and last Russian Tsar Nicholas II (1868-1918) with wine and Crimean sparkling wine.
The first attempts to produce "noble sweet" wines were made in Massandra in 1897
The highly coveted Château d' Yquem was copied, as were Hungarian Tokay, port, sherry and Madeira.
