Drinking maturity drink up
Valuation 16/20
On the label are the fat figures of Niki de Saint Phalle. However, the wine is very slender. Oak, basswood, cedar, finely capricious finish. (16/20). 16: Lightening wine red colour, first signs of ripeness. Cool bouquet, fine herbal notes, tobacco leaf, slender at the beginning, the greenish coolness is compensated by conciliatory roasted notes. Juicy on the palate on the one hand, but also somewhat crumbly in the flow, appears unfinished and shows clearly pithy notes in the finish, which unfortunately document the difficult vintage quite clearly. It was an unfair competition. Because 1997 was a great year in Napa and a mediocre semi-flop in Bordeaux (except for L'Eglise-Clinet, Ausone and Canon La Gaffelière). But we're no longer talking about Cabernet Sauvignon anyway. (16/20). 18: Lightening wine red colour, quite transparent rim. The nose is extremely milky and leaves a clear lactic flavour. It smells of wild berries, caramel and chocolate yoghurt. The palate is rather light, juicy and soft. Quite a nice wine in itself, but somehow a little boring at the same time. In a blind tasting, it is not recognisable as a Bordeaux and therefore not as a Mouton. It's fun to drink, but when you look at its market price, the whole thing is quickly redimensioned. (17/20).
