Rich purple-garnet, dense in the centre, purple shimmer on the outside. 53 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 47 % Merlot. In contrast to the other great Saint-Estèphe crus, this was harvested around a week later. Lots of cherry tones in the first attack, slightly inky background, quite deep in the first attack. On second contact, floral notes and blueberries come to the fore. Velvety flow, very soft contours, but shows great concentration. There's ammunition in there! The finish is long-lasting. Not a highly refined Phélan, but one with a certain character. (18/20). 18: Dark garnet colour with a violet hue. Quite an intense bouquet, lots of black cherries, blueberries, almost a little milky on the nose. This gives it a rather full-bodied nose. Juicy on the palate, the tannins are already rounded and convey a lot of charm. A soft Saint-Estèphe, but one of the best wines of this great vintage. (18/20). |
