Description

Drinking maturity (2024 – 2048)
Valuation 20/20
50 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 47 % Merlot, 2 % Petit Verdot, 1 % Cabernet Franc. Extremely dark purple colour with purple and violet reflections. Extremely dark berry flavour with lots of smoky nuances, liquorice, dark precious woods, Guinness beer malt and blackcurrant in the first attack. After a few minutes, a fine cinnamon flavour, blueberry pulp and Tahitian vanilla pod come to the fore. The flavour package is introverted and remains somewhat inward, although the wine also shows lavish approaches. Balanced, royal astringency, creamy extract with massive but not overloaded concentration, remains blueberry-flavoured and has an inexplicable fascination. Despite the absolutely modern vinification, it remains somehow classic. After spitting, it lingered on the palate for minutes. And it literally made me salivate. This was my greatest Pape-Clément as a young wine taster. Tasted five times. It is currently the best Pessac-Léognan. With the risk that Haut-Brion or Mission might one day overtake it. But this will not be the case 20 years ago!
