Drinking maturity drink up
Valuation 18/20
Bright garnet colour, subtle orange rim. Sweetish bouquet, the heat of the vintage can be felt first in the form of dried plums and then the Cabernet ripeness, which is just a nuance short, the aroma is sweet with great depth. The palate has become increasingly refined in recent years and now favours elegance and balance. At its peak, but I think it will stay that way for a very long time. This was a really great bottle which I rated 19/20. 15: Lightening, mature wine red colour, brick-red rim. Slender bouquet, greenish Cabernet spice, tobacco, bay leaf. Still very young on the nose due to its greenish colour. The palate is also rather slender, elegant, long and with plenty of palatable nonchalance right through to the finish. Perhaps a somewhat atypical Palmer. Almost more Médoc - like Palmer. Brightening, maturing, brighter than comparable 1982 crus. Open, fragrant bouquet, not as merlot-sweet as usual, but showing a discreetly underripe Cabernet in the medium-powerful nose. Vegetable and fruity on the palate, with soft acidity, mild and beautifully aromatic. But somehow it is neither Palmer nor a typical 1982, but rather a classically big, elegant Médoc. (18/20). 16: A rather pale colour for a 1982, with little mid-palate. The bouquet is vegetal, (ratatouille), camphor notes, eucalyptus and catnip, the earthy tone remains for a long time. Fortunately, it then gained positive nasal accents with the addition of air. Fleshy on the palate, showing a slightly crumbly, roughening note in the surprisingly concentrated extract. A reserved wine that needs plenty of decanting time. Not a charmer, more of a classic Médoc.
