THE BEST PAUILLAC-PREMIER - BUT NOT THE BEST PAUILLAC

81 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 16 % Merlot, 3 % Cabernet Franc. Deep purple, rich in the centre, garnet shimmer on the rim. While the Lafite and Latour were almost silent, this Mouton was fresh and cheerful. The bouquet showed spontaneous violet tones, cassis and blackberry blossom. The whole thing was not incredibly powerful, but very aromatic and quite complex. The palate is exactly the continuation of its nose and the flavours are repeated one to one. Here the tannins radiate a lot of sweetness, the wine tends to be medium-bodied and very concentrated from start to finish. A wine that can inspire and also move. The other two Pauillac premiers have not done this at all. Only the tannins show some muscle in the second section of the palate and exhibit a slightly tannic race. This needs to be integrated into the body over the coming months. It lingered on the palate for minutes with its pleasant blackberry flavour. And this will probably continue to be the case in the future. This is a great Pauillac - not just for label collectors. For me, it is the best Premier in the Médoc. And it would also be the best Pauillac if it weren't for the sensational Pichon-Lalande.
