00: Barrel sample (17/20): Still restrained Cabernet bouquet, fine cinnamon notes, cherries and precious woods. Firm on the palate, shows quite a lot of substance, well-supporting astringency, not to be underestimated. 02: Powerful bouquet, with a spicy Cabernet touch, rum pot fruits, vanilla pods, a hint of cinnamon and exotic woods. Firm on the palate, full-bodied tannins, chocolate, malt and toasty flavours. Develops splendidly (17/20). 05: Deep colour. A concentrated load and a very surprising, powerful 99. A very good value! (17/20). 13: Bright wine red colour, ruby rim, very fine ripe tones, but shows a beautiful, appealing aroma, appears somewhat reductive, rubber notes. Plums and chocolate tones on the palate, greenish Cabernet notes, concentrated finish, nice length. Not a great wine, but a very successful 99, and many Grand Crus are. Will certainly keep for another 10 years, with medium finesse. 17: It has developed little and comes across as relatively harmless for a Lynch-Bages. There are much better 1999s. |
