Valuation 19/20
Rich purple-garnet colour, dense in the centre, purple shimmer on the outside. Very fine bouquet, lots of red cherries and cassis with a very ripe, spicy Cabernet, cedar and precious wood touch, filigree and multi-layered. Very fine on the palate, delicate Saint-Julien flavour, the fruit is completely clear and to the point, finely supporting vanillin, elegant and long. In terms of body, this Barton is more reminiscent of a medium-bodied vintage, but in terms of finesse it is one of the greats. Can be underestimated, because one is often used to a more bombastic version of this cru. This will be a great, dancing Barton in 10 years. And then for 40 years. (19/20). 13: Extremely dark wine red in colour with almost black reflections. The bouquet begins almost lactic, showing dried plums, black tea, dried bananas, powerful and expansive. Fat on the palate, rich with lush contours, somehow I would have thought it was a Lynch-Bages if I hadn't known that there was a Barton in the glass. The finish is bombastic, focussed and with a catapult-like force. Normally a Barton is always pretty serious at every stage, this time it's the opposite of itself. That was a pretty slutty bottle. But this has less to do with the team than with the vintage. Ready soon? (19/20). 16: On Decadance Day in Feusisberg. Simply awesome! Bulky, massive and yet with an illogical charm that can be attributed to the 2009 vintage.
