Drinking maturity (2016 - 2045)
Valuation 20/20
Rich purple-garnet, dense in the centre, purple shimmer on the outside. Nutty bouquet, fig tones, dates, chocolate, noble Darjeeling tea, malt, herbal notes, warm but not hot, becomes sweeter and sweeter with air. Sublime palate, everything soft and smooth, quite opulent, caramel notes, here again showing an intoxicating herbal flavour and a hint of Far Eastern spices. On the nose, this will be a kind of La Tâche from St. Emilion. On the palate, it will be one of the most beautiful Chevals ever. Comparable to what? A 90 in a more clearly orientated, more concentrated form? A 98 in terms of fat but with even more finesse? In terms of pressure, a 2005 with a little more inside? Whatever the case, you have to pay (almost?) a third of each of these vintages.
Falstaff: 99/100
Black cherries, dark berry confit, imparting opulent Merlot fruit, fine spice notes, orange zest. Complex, powerful, dark berry fruit, present tannins, mineral, fresh acid structure, bitter chocolate aftertaste, full of finesse.
Parker: 100/100 / When to drink: 2020 to 2057
Jeff Leve: 100/100
Winkler: 20/20
Best 2009 I have ever drunk.
