Valuation 18/20
Already from the barrel a full-bodied, fleshy 17/20 point wine. 99: Deep, rich colour. Wonderful bouquet of dried fruit, already quite accessible and showed a rarely seen depth for a Beychevelle. Powerful palate, fleshy, the tannins are slightly rounded, great potential. Keep your eyes open at auctions! (18/20). 16: Medium-dark garnet colour, fine brick-red water rim on the outside. Wonderfully spicy bouquet of cedar and currants, Dominican tobacco, tar and liquorice, quite delicate and yet intense and multi-layered. Rather light on the palate (which is typical of Beychevelle), but juicy and quite long, with ratafi notes of kitchen herbs and black peppercorns in the finish, but all wonderful. I would not have expected so much elegance.

Falstaff: 92/100

Deep ruby garnet, dark colour core, violet rim. Initially quite balsamic on the nose, bouillon, sweet dark berry confit, ethereal nuances, some eucalyptus and mint, persists very well in the glass with air. Elegant on the palate, salty-mineral component, good complexity, juicy and sweet, with fine berry fruit on the finish, fresh finish, still has good ageing potential.
