Drinking maturity drink ( - 2045)
Valuation 19/20
55 % Cabernet Franc, 45 % Merlot. Rich purple-garnet colour, dense in the centre, purple shimmer on the outside. Cool bouquet, almost somewhat reserved, blackberry bushes, blackcurrants, Joschka berries, wild cherries, Tasmanian pepper, also some vine spice, herbaceous in the second attack, thyme, wild rosemary and - never experienced in the last 30 years on Ausone at a barrel tasting - eucalyptus. The palate is broad, with lots of blue to black berry fruit, enormously dense extract, rising, pleasant astringency, the fruit is very straightforward and direct, and the same can be said of the tannins. An Ausone that shows the clear style of Pauline Vauthier, attentive to every detail and not wanting to lose anything. Well mastered in a difficult year and keeping up with the competition. Perhaps I would have liked a little more soul or aura in this Ausone. As exhausting as it must have been to vinify it, it is just as exhausting to taste it. Was the decision right - to build proportionally on the Cabernet Franc as usual? As if nothing had happened? 13: The nose is quite green, almost grassy and you can sense not only eucalyptus in the nose, but also subtle traces of geraniol. This will be a difficult run and certainly no walk in the park. (18/20). 20: Medium-dark garnet with purple reflections in the centre. Mineral bouquet, traces of blood, precious woods, latte, fine tobacco notes. Continues to grow and becomes more fruity with increasing aeration. Blackcurrants, wild strawberries and ripe plums now come to the fore. It also becomes fuller, but without gaining much opulence. On the palate, it picks up a notch and comes across as an impressive Saint-Emilion. Full flavour, creamy flow, only the astringency that is still clearly present prevents the current enjoyment. Those who wait will be rewarded in ten years' time. Those who don't wait will be penalised. Could be a really good recommendation for fans of elegant Ausone's.
Falstaff: 95/100

Dark black violet colour. Concentrated on the nose, lots of new wood, smoke and tar, spice and strong minerality. Beautifully dense on the palate, ripe sweetness at the core, surrounded by a powerful tannin structure. The mineral notes are rugged and sharp. Deep and complex in structure, has pressure and length, a wine with great potential.
