Ausone 2000 with Carmenère and Petit Verdot!
It is the most tannic Ausone in its history. Owner Alain Vauthier officially states that his blend is 55 % Cabernet Franc and 45 % Merlot. However, a few Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Carmenère vines are also rooted in the Badon and Fontebelle plots.

I will systematically reduce the Merlot to Ausone. When it's young, I love it very much. I'm an admirer of Château Pétrus, but the older a Merlot gets, the more boring its expression becomes. And I will be planting more Cabernet Sauvignon on the stoniest soils of Ausone. If you cultivate it there with a maximum yield of 25 hectolitres, you can achieve sensational results. Cabernet Franc is also being further promoted. What many people don't realise is that the very old vintages of Château Ausone contained up to 75 % Cabernet. When I uncork such bottles today, I know that it was right then and will be right again today.

Very dark garnet-purple colour. The first nose still shows fascinating roasted notes, bread crust, vanilla and ripe black cherries, as well as a hint of freshly roasted coffee. There is already quite a lot of nose pressure, but more is to be expected in the future. Dense palate, still quite astringent. The perfume inside is absolutely fascinating, the wine is already intoxicating despite its youth, even if a certain austerity still (slightly) inhibits the drinking flow.
