At a dinner in Bordeaux. I recognised it immediately, even though the wine was served blind. Why? The service team had forgotten to remove the top cap. (19/20). 12: Ripe, very dark in the centre. Intense, expansive bouquet, lots of breakfast plums, malt, coffee and dark bread, somewhere there are also a few marvellous traces of blackberries, warm and sublime. Charmingly lovely on the palate, with fine race, the tannins are full-bodied and beautifully ripe, showing plenty of liquorice and dried blueberries on the aromatic finish. Now a dreamlike, unquestionable pleasure. (19/20). 13: Jéroboam bottle. Very dark colour, still black reflections. It started with a subtle musty note - just like corks! Then I took the glass, put my palm on it and shook the wine three times. Then I waited until all the carbon dioxide balls had burst and then I smelled it again. The fizz was (almost) gone. At least you could still sense blackberry, blackcurrant and that caramel-like, buttery sweetness. Unfortunately, after ten minutes the missing flavours were all back. The palate was malty, chocolaty again, dense and actually very charming. But you weren't allowed to sip, because that's when the "Schleicher" showed itself again.
